FitCityFamily Features: Mimi & Eric of Delos Therapy

Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself. Who are Mimi Bosika and Eric Owens?

A: We met as teenagers when we competed against each other at a table tennis tournament. Years later, Eric moved to the Olympic Training Center in Michigan where my father was his coach. At that time, we jokingly discussed starting a company together. Eric’s dad developed an innovative therapy for pain, stiffness and athletic performance, but he didn’t have a medical background nor the business tools to grow his business as he wanted. Eric saw the immense value of the therapy was determined to go to medical school. He also saw my interest in operations and management. I concluded that I needed to attend the best business school I could so that we could start Delos and take Eric’s dad’s efforts to the next level. We reunited 6 years ago after fulfilling on our promises, found an investor and actually followed through on our plan from when we were teenagers. Now we are on a mission to have a global impact on how pain is treated and how muscle health is understood.

Q: What was the inspiration behind Delos Therapy?

A: As mentioned, Eric’s father was an engineer who had a shoulder issue that none of the pain specialists he consulted could alleviate. He began to troubleshoot his situation, noticed that applying pressure to the area that hurt provided relief and began studying anatomy to understand what could be causing the pain and why systematic pressure into the muscle tissue was effective.

Meanwhile, during Eric’s career as a professional athlete, he saw a lot of other athletes frustrated with conventional care when they were injured and couldn’t perform at their best. He felt that he had an inherent advantage with Delos Therapy and that something was getting missed with standard approaches. Once he transitioned from his career as an athlete to focus on education, he noticed in his master’s program and in medical school that there were many shortcomings to treating patients who were in pain. It has therefore become his life’s mission to use the advanced Delos technique to alleviate pain and improve athletic performance, along with laying a foundation in the healthcare industry for more refined studies of the myofascial system.

Mimi’s inspiration as a co-founder of Delos is to elevate the customer service experience in the world of medicine while optimizing operational processes. Contrary to the existing minimal service level and efficiency associated with healthcare, Mimi’s goal is to create an unforgettable and extraordinary experience for clients at Delos to match the quality of the therpy.

Q: What do you love most about your job?

A: First and foremost, we love that we’re able to help people - from athletes of all ages and levels who are setting personal records, to professionals who are able to improve their productivity at work because they are able to focus without nagging stiffness, to grandparents who can resume playing with their grand-kids because they are no longer hurting.

Another thing we love is our team - we have people with profound passion, integrity and drive to help us deliver our therapy to as many people as possible.

Finally, we are so thrilled about the partnerships we’ve created in the world of health and wellness in Chicago. We can’t wait to expand beyond this city. The impact we are making gives us energy to continue growing and it also makes our work very exciting.

Q: Take us through a day in the life!

A: Eric and I differ greatly in our roles in the company. Eric’s day might include seeing new clients, having meetings with therapist to collaborate on client cases and refine our therapy, giving a talk on muscle health and attending a networking event. My day can include working with our operations manager on planning our participation in fitness events, reaching out to new contacts to create partnerships, meeting with various partners to discuss collaborating and talking with our therapists to plan client outreach and service delivery. The best part about our days is that they are always different, always fulfilling and they require many skill sets.

Q: What’s your favorite way to stay active?

A: We both train at Hardpressed and like to work out at our partners’ studios. They include Shred415, Hustle Fitness, River North Gym, The Barre Code and Yoga Squad, among many others. We also can’t forget to mention that we still play table tennis at SPiN Chicago.

Q: What do you love most about YOUR #FitCityFamily (aka the health and wellness community in Chicago that you interact with!)

A: Our #FitCityFamily in Chicago is beyond amazing. There is so much collaboration because we all have Chicago’s best interest in mind. From working with numerous gyms, fitness studios and trainers, to healthy food companies, acupuncturists, chiropractors, physical therapists, we have been incredibly lucky to have support and provide support to our friends. I’m not sure how things are in other cities, but I hope people who live in Chicago recognize the strength of the wellness community here and all the options that are available to contribute to a healthy and fulfilling life.

We consider our clients our #FitCityFamily as well. Their trust, commitment to our therapy and the results they achieve by being our clients creates a special bond because we are personally involved in their journey to achieving fulfilling lives without limitations.

xx,

Mimi + Eric + The Blondes
