FitCityFamily Features: Brittan Leiser from AdvisHER

Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself. Who is Brittan Leiser?

A: Brittan Leiser is a Financial Advisor with One Seven, a Registered Investment Advisor in Beachwood, Ohio, and the creator of ‘AdvisHer’, a financial blog written specifically for women. Brittan created AdvisHER after recognizing that in the male dominated financial industry, women often felt ignored or overwhelmed when it came to having a conversation about their own personal finances.

A graduate of the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business, Brittan is passionate about helping clients understand their financial options in order to achieve their true potential. Brittan enjoys cultivating strong relationships, solving complex problems, and feels most rewarded when she is able to help others prepare for and live their most meaningful lives. When Brittan isn’t in the office, she enjoys running, exploring new parts of the world with her husband, baking chocolate chip cookies, cheering on all Cleveland sports teams, and teaching her one year old son the words to the Notre Dame fight song.

Q: What was the inspiration behind AdvisHER?

A: I created AdvisHER after realizing that so many of my female clients had similar concerns and questions about their finances. These women all were smart, accomplished, and successful in their own ways, but felt completely intimidated when discussing anything relating to finance. They inspired me to create AdvisHer, which is designed to serve as an empowering, educational, and less overwhelming way for women to learn more about the wonderful world of personal finance. It is my hope that this content serves as the catalyst women need to feel more confident in joining the conversation so that they, too, can take ownership of their own financial health.

Q: What do you love most about your job?

A: I love helping my clients understand their financial options so that they can achieve their true potential. I am a big believer in people and truly enjoy building and fostering relationships. I am very passionate about helping individuals own their financial health and enjoy assisting them as they achieve their goals so that, ultimately, they can live the lives they have always imagined. Nothing is more rewarding to me than making someone live out their purpose and feel worthwhile.

Q: Take us through a day in the life!

A: These days, my alarm clock goes by the name of Gavin Leiser  I wake up with my little man each morning and before we do anything else, we begin the day with a little dance session. Gavin is such a fun and playful little guy, so we love to dance, sing, and play in the mornings before I go to work. I always start my work mornings with caffeine because #momlife, and spend some time reading the day’s headlines before the Stock Market opens at 9:30am EST. I spend most of my mornings managing investments and meeting with my clients. I am most productive in the mornings, so I prefer to schedule as many meetings as possible before noon. In the afternoon, I create content for AdvisHer and follow-up with any remaining tasks leftover from the morning. Once the Stock Market closes, I race back home to spend some time with Gavin before he goes to bed for the day. Once he is down for the night, I love to get a workout in any way that I can! Some days, I make it to a favorite fitness class, but most of the time I break a sweat in my basement (gotta do what you gotta do, right?). Then, I enjoy dinner with my husband and wind down with a little wine (again, because #momlife) while we likely watch re-runs of The Office.

Q: What's your favorite way to stay active?

A: I love, love, love to workout. As I’ve gotten older, I have realized that moving my body is such a privilege. It is so important for me to break a sweat and mentally set aside some time each day for myself. I love to run and indulge in some Orangetheory classes when I have the time. In the summer months, you can find me walking outside with my husband, Gavin, and our two dogs.

Q: What do you love most about YOUR #FitCityFamily (aka the health and wellness community in Ohio that you interact with!)

A: I love the energy within the health/wellness community in my town, as well as in the greater Cleveland area. It is always so inspiring to be around others who are seizing the day and staying active.

Q: What is one tip you would share for someone new to the world of finance?

A: Take advantage of opening a Roth IRA if you can! These retirement accounts (IRA is just a fancy acronym for Individual Retirement Account) are a specific type of retirement account available to anyone with earned income from a job who also is below a particular income threshold (read more on this here). The best part of a Roth IRA? You can withdraw money TAX FREE from the account beginning at age 59.5! If you do one thing to feel better about your finances in the next few months, open a Roth IRA. Your future self will thank you!

xx,
