February 10, 2014. The day I fell in love. Senior year of college, I discovered the Weight Watchers cake when my best friend’s mom (I love you, Mrs. Klem!) made one for my friend’s 22nd birthday party. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this delicious creation -- it consists of combining a box of cake mix with a diet soda of your choice. By forgoing the eggs and oil, you are creating a lower calorie cake, thus hitting less Weight Watchers points. Although I don’t follow WW, this cake has been a hit among friends and family, and has worked its way into many birthdays and celebrations. For the past six years I have been tweaking the recipe by using different beverages of choice, such as Henry’s Hard Sparkling Soda (desperate times - but also delicious) and on more festive occasions, champagne, because #adulting.Read More

It is officially the first day of Fall and I am writing this from the Colectivo patio where I am enjoying my almond milk latte with a shot of pumpkin spice and the best pumpkin cranberry muffin in town. Autumn weekends in Chicago, need I say more?
I, similar to most, have an affinity for seasonal things – specifically anything in the realm of pumpkin spice. As soon as LDW hits, I find myself trying to incorporate pumpkin into just about anything I do. Pumpkin coffee orders, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin Rx Bars, pumpkin candles, you name it, I am here for it.
Thankfully, I am blessed to have a sweet friend who shares my same affinity for pumpkin. So much so, in fact, that she has her own blog centered around all things pumpkin. Enter, Maggie Michalczyk, better known as @onceuponapumpkin. For those of you who are not familiar with Maggie, you’ve been missing out.Read More

Have you ever thought about the temperature of your food and how it affects your digestion? I recently started going to acupuncture on a weekly basis and was told by my acupuncturist that I may benefit from eating warm foods more often than cold/raw foods. Here’s a quick nutrition-packed recipe that makes this easy!Read More
During my no-caffeine stint, I had been drinking hot cacao elixirs almost daily (read for recipe!). They did an excellent job of replacing my morning warm beverage, and I’d heard that cacao was a “superfood” of sorts...but I honestly wasn’t 100% sure why it had such a good reputation. Turns out, raw cacao is so much more than your average bar of dark chocolate.Read More
Skincare routines - we all have them. We all live by them (perhaps religiously). But do we really know if they're working? Beyond that, do we know what they are doing to our bodies under the surface? And lastly, are our routines all-encompassing - meaning, are we thinking about everything we're exposed to/consume and our skin is responding?Read More

“Roughly 80-90% of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that affects mood, social behavior, sleep, appetite, memory, and even libidio, is produced in the gut.”1 In addition, 60-80% of our immune system is location in our gut, meaning that “gut imbalances have been linked to hormonal imbalances, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, anxiety, depression, eczema, rosacea, and other chronic health problems.”5 Yikes! We can clearly see its importance, but what exactly is our “gut”? The term does seem kind of vague.Read More
For those of you who are just tuning in, a few weeks ago I began working with Pressed Vibrance in a quest to heal my body from inflammation and fix my imbalances…aka put an end to the painful cystic acne that has plagued my face for the past year or so, and to do it naturally. I identify as an HSP - highly sensitive person - and with that comes an array of health issues since birth. Some of the many issues I’ve struggled with over the years include: many allergies (to food, pets, the environment), eczema, and IBS. Basically, about once a quarter, I find myself in the doctor’s office for some chronic illness or rash. Joy!Read More

I walked into work the other day and everyone was buzzing about Intermittent Fasting. I swear if you eat before noon these days, people are giving you the side-eye. Additionally, Vital Proteins' signature blue boxes are littered amongst the piles of Amazon packages in our office every day and whenever I receive a shipment, my desk is immediately bombarded with, "Does this work?" "Have you tried it?"
So, what's the deal here? When did Collagen and Intermittent Fasting become so popular and why have I bought in?Read More
My kind of town, Chicago is. A bustling city settled on the shores of Lake Michigan, Chicago is truly the best of the Midwest. While it is not quite to the standards of LA, the wellness scene here has definitely started to blow up with amazing coffee shops, juice bars, and boutique fitness studios in every neighborhood. Sometimes that means it can be difficult to navigate, especially if you are here for a quick weekend or have just moved to town. Most people have heard of Portillo’s and Chicago deep dish pizza, but if you’re on the hunt for something a little healthier, we’ve got you covered. Follow this guide for a flawless wellness weekend in Chicago, sans hot dogs.Read More
Flashback to one year ago (literally to the week). It was a winter day at the office, Chicago was dreary and cold, and I. Was. Miserable. I was working a job that I knew wasn't right for me. I was coming off the holidays with a little more puffiness than I would have liked. And I was desperately trying to think of ways to fulfill my 2017 resolution of "finding my purpose in life." Lofty goal, I know.Read More
Coffee and I are on a break since matcha entered the picture a few months ago. Matcha just makes me feel better and gives me a calm alertness, rather than the frenzied anxious energy I often feel after coffee. Plus, matcha features much higher levels of antioxidants than coffee, helping fight cancer and slowing the aging process. When I found Vital Proteins Matcha Collagen, I knew it was love. The combination of this powerfully nutritious tea + essential collagen protein has been astoundingly beneficial for the way my body feels lately. Collagen is known to boost the appearance of skin, hair, and nails, increase athletic performance, and aid the digestive process, and I can definitely tell a difference. But I still missed my bulletproof mornings and the productivity I would experience at work all. day. long. So I started playing around in the kitchen...Read More
