You know what they say: another year older, another year wiser.  So this year, I'm trying to be wiser... at least when it comes to my skin.  

When you're #almost30, you start thinking about things like wrinkles (fun, right?  My 20's babies - you excited!?).  But the good news is: I know some 40 y/o's who still look 20... and it's all because they took care of their skin and stayed out of the sun.

I just moved to LA and got a terrible sunburn the other day to the point my nose and forehead peeled... I haven't done that since I was a kid.  And I thought to myself: this is totally irresponsible; it's time to make a change.

I've been fighting both acne and my inability to commit to a skincare routine for as long as I can remember, and only now do I feel like I'm finally in the right frame of mind to make a change.

So, I went to the dermatologist and got a facial (check out 4 takeaways from my first facial) and my aesthetician prescribed a skincare program for me. How I know she genuinely cares?  She didn't just prescribe what they sell at the skincare center.  She actually prescribed a few items that I was able to buy from Target/Amazon as well.

Although I'm happy to share what I'm doing, I 10/10 recommend visiting a licensed medical aesthetician/dermatologist at least once to get your OWN personalized regime.  That said, here's mine:

Morning:

  1. Cleanse: Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser ($8)

  2. Tone: Thayer - Witch Hazel Toner-Rose Petal ($8)

  3. Vitamin C: Beautycounter No. 1 Brightening Facial Oil

  4. Moisturize: SkinMedica Ultra Sheer Moisturizer ($58)

  5. SPF: SkinMedica Essential Defense Everyday Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 47 ($38)

Night:

  1. Cleanse: Same as above

  2. Tone: Same as above

  3. Retinol (3 x week): SkinMedica Retinol Complex 0.25 ($62)

  4. Moisturize: Same as above

Other:

  1. Monthly facials - you can space your appointments anywhere from two weeks to a month (or more) apart.
