How I Got My Cycle Back pt. 1

There were so many times I believed I would be writing this post. I’d written it out in my head, wanting to pour it out and explain how simple it is to regulate your cycle after getting off of the birth control pill. Oh how I was wrong time and time again.

When the Foam Roller is No Longer Cutting It...

My story with physical therapy is a tale as old as time.  I grew up in a household where chiropractic adjustments were a weekly occurrence, acupuncture was encouraged, and we had a specialty physician for every part of the body. My mom suffered from debilitating migraines for a few decades (God Bless her!), so fortunately for us, there was a large emphasis placed on healthcare, and my brother and I were introduced to specialty medicine at an early age.

In the summer of 2017, I had a quarter-life crisis and decided to sign up for the Chicago Marathon (I mean, why else would anyone sign up for a marathon, like ever?). While it was a great idea at the time, gave me something to channel all of my life’s frustrations into and taught me discipline, I only made it to a 15-mile practice run before I was plagued with debilitating shin splints.  I visited a chiropractor/PT who informed me that I could have shin splints, but I could also have a stress fracture, and advised that I go get an x-ray and that I take a break from running.

Billionaire/Celebrity Health Hack: Glutathione

Glutathione is a primary detoxifier, critical to every cell in your body. It’s so important for anti-aging, and acts to reverse cellular damage from lifestyle, diet and environmental factors. Staying Aligned in the New Year

New Year’s reflections - I am a huge fan. As 2018 comes to an end, I have spent some time reflecting on the great times, the I-could-have-done-without-that-but-thanks experiences, the straight up ugly crying moments, and all of the beautiful lessons learned along the way.  Charles Dickens summed up this year so eloquently -- “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.” I think it is safe to say that 2018 had a lot of ups and downs for all of us, but we made it.

More Festive than My Red Mood-Changing Nail Polish

February 10, 2014. The day I fell in love. Senior year of college, I discovered the Weight Watchers cake when my best friend’s mom (I love you, Mrs. Klem!) made one for my friend’s 22nd birthday party.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with this delicious creation -- it consists of combining a box of cake mix with a diet soda of your choice. By forgoing the eggs and oil, you are creating a lower calorie cake, thus hitting less Weight Watchers points. Although I don’t follow WW, this cake has been a hit among friends and family, and has worked its way into many birthdays and celebrations. For the past six years I have been tweaking the recipe by using different beverages of choice, such as Henry’s Hard Sparkling Soda (desperate times - but also delicious) and on more festive occasions, champagne, because #adulting.

Self-Care with Aligned Modern Health

Let’s talk about self-care for a second.

In my yoga classes, I often ask people to think about how many instances per week they dedicate at least an hour of time to themselves. Without the distractions of text messages, email, social media, television, or even other people. An hour to be present with YOU, whatever that may mean.

And now I’ll ask you.
